Sugar Bay Barbados Wedding Photography

Welcome to this amazing Sugar Bay Barbados wedding I was lucky enough to photograph recently. I’m no stranger to Barbados having lived on the island 23 years ago. Having shot a few weddings in Barbados over the years, I was delighted that my lovely couple contacted me 18 months ago and asked me to shoot their Barbados wedding.

Sugar Bay is one of the best wedding venues on the island, forget sandy lane unless you have just won the lottery. Simply put Sugar Bay is just perfect. Set on the beach on the south coast of Barbados, right next to Drill hall beach which is one of my favourite surf spots. The bay is sheltered by a man-made rock reef giving safe and calm waters to swim. Sugar Bay has multiple restaurants and bars spread out over lush tropical gardens.

Having not really explored Sugar Bay before I met up with Sophie and Dave a couple of days before the wedding for a drink on the beach. Silly me got the suntan lotion and the aftersun mixed up and applied the wrong one so ended up getting a bit burned during our drinks!. The location is now scouted let’s get to the wedding day.

Sugar Bay Barbados Wedding Day

It was a small wedding with only 13 guests, small but perfectly formed. I started off with shooting bridal preparations with Sophie and her two bridesmaids, Her best friend Oonah and her lovely sister Alexa. Sophie didn’t have a makeup artist, to be honest, the girls looked amazing enough so did their own makeup. Hair on the other hand is quite tricky to do yourself so Sophie brought in Donna from Hair by Donna Barbados who did an amazing job.

Dave got ready with his substitute best man Rob as the original best man sadly couldn’t make it due to having covid. Sophie got dave a special wedding gift delivered by Oonah (Rob’s Wife) A amazing luminor marina Panerai watch.

Unfortunately, the priest was involved in a car accident and was an hour late, but with the help of some rum-filled coconuts, the guests were kept entertained on the beach. The ceremony spot on the beach can only really be shot from one direction due to the harsh sunlight which was a bit challenging.

Once the priest arrived the wedding ceremony could commence. The ceremony went really well and Sophie and her bridesmaids looked amazing, David also!

After the ceremony the wedding party went to one of the bars for a few drinks, a nice fruit punch went down a treat! yup even I had one, actually I had two as it was so hot.

The reception was held at Colin’s beach bar next to the pool. The three-course meal was amazing, probably one of the best I have had in Barbados. The bay surrounding Sugar Bay makes the perfect location for some couples shots, we took a walk along the beach which was deserted by late afternoon and grabbed a few portraits.

After the speeches and cake cutting the party started, lots of dancing and fun! I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Sugar Bay and especially to Sophie and David for choosing me to photograph their wedding at Sugar Bay Barbados.
